MAURICE MALONE RELAUNCHES THE MEN'S COLLECTION
Splendidly Detailed Line Targets Contemporary Market

New York, New York – Following the success of the women debut denim collection spring of 2002, Maurice Malone re-enters the men’s collection market – through denim fall 2002. The new men’s collection is well tailored and sharply detailed. The fit has a low waist with slightly flared to mainly relaxed fittings legs. The detailing comes from elaborate stitching and decorated or embellish out seams. A favorite is the tuxedo pant turned jean; apply named the tuxedo jeans. “I see a void in the market in both men’s and women’s jeans. There are no really innovative styled jeans that avoid trendy ness while remaining wearable. All the effort is put into 5-pocket basics over the top or vintage washes. The designers that are putting effort in the design aspect of their jeans, usually come up jeans designed for the runway or fashion spreads and are not very practical,” say’s Malone.

This fall, Maurice Malone jeans retail from $108 to $220, and denim jackets from $99 to $240. The women’s line is currently available in New York at boutiques such as Atrium, Big Drop, Vlada, Zabri, Patricia Fields, Eva and Plum.

“The line has been received exceptionally well its first time out, and the buzz is building, say’s Malone. Even though I’ve been known primarily for men’s wear most of my career, the new men’s collection will be patterned after the women’s line. We’re extremely involved in the New York club scene and very focused on our target customers, who, in women’s market are mainly young, stylish, on the go, slim, 18-30 year olds. Starting this summer we’re planning various upcoming fashion shows and parties bringing together media, press, retailers and our consumers to experience the Maurice Malone life style.”

In 1998, the Council of Fashion Designers (CFDA), fashion's most respected organization, nominated Malone for its Perry Ellis Award Menswear Designer of Year Award, along with Marc Jacobs and Sandy Dalal. In 1999, he was listed in The New York Times Magazine as one of men's fashion's up-and-coming designers, along with John Bartlett, Gene Meyer, Sandy Dalal, Tony Melillo, Matt Nye, Richard Bengtson and Edward Pavlick. In that same year, P.O.V. ranked Malone as one the top 50 people to watch.

“This past year has been a sort of rebirth for me. Since the spring of 2001 when I parted ways with a partner in my now defunct Mojeans Urban business, I’ve been able to do for the first time, all the things I’ve always wanted to do, except now, on a lot smaller level. I’m doing things that, as a designer with a financial backer I wasn’t allowed to do. I go against the gain at times and set my own rules. Don’t let sales people or retailers dictate what I do in my business. I see my business through the eyes of an artist as well as an business man who is very careful not to let one side dominate the other,” say’s Malone.

Maurice Malone's Men’s Showroom is at 89 Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211. The telephone number is (718) 218-7303. Further information on Maurice Malone can be found at: www.mauricemaloneusa.com, or by e-mailing info@mauricemaloneusa.com.
